MY HOSPITALITY LIFE
My Hospitality Life (also known as ‘Inspiring Hospitality Careers’) is an Edge Hotel School initiative, supported by The Edge Foundation. The project aims to raise the profile of the hospitality industry as a career of choice for young people by engaging students in a range of interactive scenario sessions to illustrate the positive, yet challenging, nature of hospitality work. Our ambition is to deliver our sessions to 5,000 school pupils by the end 2018 and leave a legacy of teaching materials which can be used in class to sustain the ambitions of the programme.
My Hospitality Life acknowledges that there are other organisations which provide excellent information about hospitality careers and rather than duplicating these, the role of this website is to guide young people to these relevant sources. My Hospitality Life aims to provide careers advice directly to students and their influencers, and to work with schools, career advisors and others organisations working with young people to deliver unique and thought-provoking class materials to inspire young people about careers in hospitality. We can also offer visits to Wivenhoe House, home of the Edge Hotel School.

EDGE HOTEL SCHOOL
At the Edge Hotel School not only do you study the theory to achieve a degree, you also work alongside hospitality professionals - putting your knowledge into context right away - helping to run Wivenhoe House, a real-life 4* hotel. Our courses are two-year accelerated degrees involving 45 weeks of study in the year with around six weeks of holiday. You can either study for a BA (Hons) Hotel Management, with start dates in September and February, or for a BA (Hons) Events Management with Hospitality with one intake per year in September.
We work closely with the industry and are producing future hospitality leaders so feel a responsibility to raise awareness of our brilliant industry and provide young people with the information that they need to make decisions about their future. Despite being the UK’s fourth largest industry and employing almost 4.5m people, recent research has found that just 22% of 16-21 year-olds in the UK would consider hospitality as a career. Meanwhile, almost one in three (26%) admit they don’t see hospitality as an industry to work in after obtaining a degree. This is something we want to change, and so have created My Hospitality Life with the Edge Foundation to encourage more young people to think about hospitality as a career of choice.
